Heukemes (*1999) finished her studies at the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe in early 2026, in the class of Sophie von Hellermann. Her ceramic works negotiate subjects of (self-) protection and resistance in the tension between strength and fragility. Soft or feminine connoted materials such as ceramics or crochet works encounter pictorial motifs such as swords and armor, romantic ornaments and mythological symbols. Through these motifs, she creates imaginary places somewhere between her own reality and that of the viewer. Her practice centers an understanding of protection as a flexible, gentle shell in which vulnerability appears not as a contradiction but as a prerequisite for strength.
